At its Dec. 30 meeting the Scottsburg Board of Public Works and Safety approved several personnel moves and a lease agreement, and staff reported progress fixing a customer-billing error affecting broadband customers.
Administration said Harold Hoover, previously assistant chief, will be elevated to police chief effective Jan. 5, 2026, with Dave Harden returning to captain; several officers will receive a $100 monthly cell-phone stipend. “Chief Harold will be $100 a month,” the presenter said when listing the stipend amounts.
The board approved hiring rookie patrolman Jaylon Hines with a start date of Jan. 5, 2026, and approved hiring Macy Amick as a Mid America Science Park concierge/social-media and events position, also effective Jan. 5. The board approved both hires by motion.
The board approved a lease for Stephanie Parker to rent a room at Mid America Science Park effective Jan. 1, 2026; a security deposit was noted.
On utilities, staff described a billing software glitch that caused broadband bills to display a $0 charge for some customers; staff said they identified the issue, reprinted and separately mailed corrected bills and are working with the vendor NISC to complete the mailing. The city also reported a broadband outage over the weekend caused by a broken line that crews repaired within a few hours.
The board concluded with routine claims approval and holiday announcements.
