Roosevelt swears in Mayor Tommy Kent Olsen; council adopts meeting calendar and outlines committee appointments

Tommy Kent Olsen was sworn in as mayor at the start of the Roosevelt City Council meeting, repeating the oath to "support, obey, and defend the Constitution of the United States and the constitution of the state of Utah." Council members also took their oaths during the opening proceedings.

The mayor conducted a roll call and noted two absences. After ceremonial remarks and an opening prayer, staff asked councilmembers to review a circulated list of standing committees and indicate preferences; the mayor will make appointments at the next meeting subject to council approval.

Council members debated whether to keep regular meetings on Tuesdays — a day staff said historically works best — or to move meetings to accommodate a member who teaches on Tuesday nights. The council formalized its schedule with a motion, which was seconded and approved unanimously.

City staff also offered orientation support to the newly seated officials, including tours of active city projects. The mayor closed the opening business by urging the council to move forward with work under the new administration.

The public portion concluded with the mayor calling for the scheduled agenda items to proceed; the meeting later moved into a closed session.
