Shenendehowa board appoints Patrice King, approves routine bids and names new facilities director

The Shenendehowa Central School District Board of Education on Jan. 7 appointed Patrice King to fill a board vacancy and approved a slate of routine consent items, including procurement bids and an IT contract renewal.

A district clerk read a resolution saying the appointment fills the vacancy created by the resignation of board member Gusta Miller effective Oct. 21, 2025, and that "Patrice King is hereby appointed pursuant to Education Law 1709, subdivision 17, to fill the vacancy" until the next regular election. Andrea moved the appointment, Petra seconded, and the board approved the motion by voice vote.

The board also approved consent items without recorded roll-call tallies: the treasurer's report and minutes from the Dec. 16 meeting; bid awards for classroom and custodial supplies and fuel under BOCES/NERIC pricing; the renewal of Duo two‑factor authentication for IT; and an IMS purchase through NERIC/BOCES to secure consortium pricing. Scholarship and local grant donations were accepted with thanks, and updated IPAC course proposals were approved as presented.

Special education staff presented Committee on Special Education (CSE) placement recommendations for students with disabilities; the board moved, seconded and approved the placements. Superintendent Cecily Wilson Turner also announced that Morris Vaughn will serve as the district's new director of facilities; Vaughn was present earlier in the meeting and will be formally introduced and sworn in according to district procedure.
