The Kent County Levy Court used part of its Jan. 13 meeting to recognize two local youth who achieved the rank of Eagle Scout and to present a 20-year public service award to Commissioner Allen F. Angel.
Commissioner Sweeney introduced tributes for Landon Swank and Dominic Haas, detailing their years in scouting, leadership roles and the projects that earned them Eagle Scout status. According to the tribute read into the record, Landon designed and constructed a gaga ball pit for Providence Creek Academy that required planning and coordination of volunteers; Dominic designed and built a memorial bench and concrete pad honoring a Smyrna Clayton Little League player, incorporating reclaimed materials and fabricated supports.
Families and troop leaders joined the scouts at the front for photographs; both scouts offered short remarks. A troop leader noted both boys pushed their projects to completion and praised their initiative. Commissioners offered congratulations and personal memories of scouting.
Separately, the court read a formal certificate recognizing Commissioner Allen F. Angel for 20 years of public service to Kent County. The certificate was presented as signed by Joanne Haston. Commissioners lauded Angel’s leadership and long service; family members were invited for photos and brief remarks.
These recognitions were presented during the "presentations" portion of the meeting and do not carry any formal action beyond the award readings and photos.
