Committee outlines graphics, memorial preservation and moving logistics for new schools

Bill Nash, vice chair, told the committee on Jan. 14 that the Cultural, Historical & Memorial Subcommittee has been walking through existing buildings to inventory memorials and identify graphic opportunities for the new school. The subcommittee’s principal charge is producing graphics and ensuring historically significant names and memorials (including the Gaudet name and Barry Clark Gymnasium references) are preserved or officially considered for inclusion in the new building.

Nash and Tammy Holden described planned feedback to the design team and a subcommittee meeting scheduled for Jan. 27 to refine concepts. Committee members discussed a possible physical time capsule (an example cost cited at about $1,000) and emphasized coordinating what is displayed in schools versus what could be housed in a new town library historical room.

To manage transfer of artifacts and personal items, Colin said the budget includes a $10,000 owner’s allowance for salvage from Gaudet School and that project moving/relocation line items exist for the broader relocation effort. School staff described a staged approach for surplus and moving, and administrators urged early FF&E procurement and user‑group involvement so teachers understand what furniture and equipment will be available in new spaces.
