Charles County Board of Education elects Kramer chair, Tamisha Thomas vice chair

The Charles County Board of Education elected Ms. Kramer as chairperson and Tamisha Thomas as vice chairperson during its Jan. 13 meeting, fulfilling the annual officer election required by the Education Article of Maryland law.

Ms. Kramer received the required majority during roll-call voting after nominees addressed the board; in her remarks she emphasized continuity, collaborative leadership and fiscal responsibility. Tamisha Thomas, elected vice chair, told the board she intends to focus on student learning, strategic planning and the district’s financial footprint.

The board followed a structured process outlined by staff: nominations were called, each nominee was allotted up to three minutes to speak, and members voted in nomination order until a nominee secured the required votes. The procedure was identified in the meeting as consistent with state statute (Education Article §3-502).

The leadership change came at the start of the board’s calendar year business and the newly elected officers presided over the remainder of the meeting.

The board did not record a public roll-call tally in the meeting transcript beyond the chair announcer’s readout that the chair nominee had received the necessary votes and the vice chair vote concluded with the nominee being seated; the transcript includes the nomination speeches and the chair’s formal announcement of results.
