Kokomo Board gives homeowner until March 25 to address yard cleanup at 3816 Redbud Lane

The Kokomo Board of Public Works and Safety continued a nuisance cleanup hearing on Jan. 14 for 3816 Redbud Lane and scheduled a follow-up inspection for March 25, 2026 at 10 a.m.

Resident Justin Daley told the Board he has spent "over $700 so far" on dumpsters and has been moving items to a warehouse; he said much of the leaf and brush material near his house originates from neighboring properties and that some outdoor collections on his lot are intended as "art." Staff told the Board the owner had contacted the office, secured another dumpster and had been working on the property but that items remain in violation.

Board members and staff questioned Daley about recent photos showing piles of material and asked how much time he would need to move items he wants to keep into storage. A board member said city crews would enter and remove materials if the property was not substantially cleaned and that the city would send an invoice for abatement work. The Board asked Daley to secure any items he considered valuable so city crews would not remove them inadvertently.

The Board moved and seconded a motion to continue the hearing, giving notice to the owner to appear March 25, 2026 at 10 a.m.; the motion carried on a unanimous vote.

Staff also said they would contact the street department to clarify brush and limb pickup and whether material reported to that department had been collected as Daley described.
