Commission weighs a two-step inventory and strategic-plan updates for BoomTown district

Commissioner Will Rodebush proposed streamlining the completed building-inventory process by first using an 11-item checklist to determine whether a property warrants a full inventory, then completing the detailed property-inventory form for qualifying sites.

Rodebush suggested the checklist could be used in outreach visits with owners to surface local historical information and to involve students or volunteers for surveying work. Several commissioners agreed the two-stage approach would reduce the burden of the full inventory form and help recruit owner participation.

Heather circulated an expanded strategic plan that outlines HPC powers, lists accomplishments from 2022–25, and sets long-term goals such as preparing for Bowling Green's 200th birthday and considering a preservation consultant. Members agreed to continue the inventory and strategic-plan discussion at the January meeting after additional review of materials.

No formal vote was taken; commissioners asked staff to prepare revisions and attachments (checklist and full inventory form) for the next packet.
