Concord Elementary students showcase student council, newspaper and clubs at Troy board meeting

Students from Concord Elementary presented to the board on Jan. 26, 2026 to highlight ways the school engages students in leadership and service.

Principal Dan Hakon introduced the Concord delegation and thanked the board for its support. Wendy Grimm, the district ELL coordinator housed at Concord, said student council members are elected by peers and help run events; she noted the school’s newspaper appears at least four times a year.

Several students described their specific roles: Regina Monas (fourth grade) checked tickets and helped enforce event boundaries at movie nights and helped translate English to Spanish for a peer; Isabelle Jenkins (third grade) collected tickets and distributed snack bags at a first-grade event; Ava Grama (fifth grade) described participation in student council, newspaper, board-game club and a math-club peer-help program that assists first graders; and Lucas (fifth grade) described duties at movie nights and the book-fair bake sale and noted he participates in recycling shifts.

Board members commended the students; the presentation emphasized volunteerism, cross-grade mentoring, and extracurricular learning opportunities run by students and supported by staff.

The board invited families in attendance to be recognized and then continued with routine business.
