The Winona County Board of Commissioners elected Commissioner Chris Meyer as board chair on Jan. 13, following nominations and a roll-call-style vote.
Meyer secured the chair position after nominees were presented and members cast votes; the clerk reported the count as 3–2 in favor of Meyer. The board then moved to elect a vice chair; Commissioner Elsing was nominated and confirmed by a unanimous 5–0 voice vote.
The election followed a brief discussion about whether the board should adopt a rotation for chairmanship in future years. Several commissioners said they supported exploring a rotation policy and requested staff place the topic on a future agenda. The board’s rules assign chair duties to the elected commissioner but do not expand the chair’s voting power beyond other commissioners.
Meyer will assume duties as chair for the coming year; Elsing will serve as vice chair. The board continued with its regular agenda after the new officers were announced.
