Amy Atkinson Bennett took the oath of office as a newly appointed member of the Denison Convention & Visitors Bureau advisory board before the group elected its leadership and updated its grant rules.
At the start of the meeting the board administered the oath to Amy Atkinson Bennett. The board then opened nominations for one-year leadership terms and advanced a motion that put forward Zach Deuce as chair and Cindy as vice chair; the nominations were approved by voice vote.
Jordan, the tourism director, presented a package of changes to the Discover Denison 2026 tourism grant application and post-project reporting forms. Jordan said the application dates were revised for 2026 grant cycles (spring, summer, fall, winter) and that grant types were separated so applicants choose among events, conventions, historic preservation and advertising and promotion. Jordan said the changes require letters of agreement to include bids, quotes and invoices so the board can verify how awarded funds were spent. Jordan said those steps are intended to improve accountability and allow the CVB to fund more projects within existing limits.
"I updated the application to reflect 2026 dates," Jordan said, and added that the city will provide a fillable PDF online to make applications easier to complete.
The board moved to accept the December 8, 2025 meeting minutes and later voted to approve the revised 2026 grant applications and post-project report forms. Votes were recorded by voice; the meeting transcript does not show a roll-call tally. The board chair closed the business and moved to the scheduled reports.
The updates alter how the advisory board will assess requests and emphasize documentation of costs so disbursed hotel-tax-supported dollars can be matched to specific project expenditures. The changes also create a standalone advertising-and-promotion application and a distinct historic-preservation application, which Jordan said will reduce ambiguity in how funds are requested and spent.
The board adjourned at the end of the session.
