Board hears repairs and lighting plans after water leak and failing LED lights

Speaker 7 briefed the board on several facilities items: a water leak behind North Elementary that had persisted for months was excavated and repaired, fire‑safety inspections (hoods and alarms) were completed over the break, and outstanding gate lock/latch work is nearing completion.

Speaker 7 described recurring problems with school‑zone light controllers and intermittent timers that cause lights to operate at incorrect times; the district plans to replace controllers and has identified batteries or controllers as potential failure points. The speaker also described a damaged gutter/downspout assembly that uses a chain to a concrete basin; the chain has started pulling the basin and may require demolition and reconstruction in the summer because it creates several hundred pounds of tension on the roof line.

On athletic and parking‑lot lighting, Speakers 7, 8 and 10 said some LEDs produce a purple hue or fail unpredictably. The district has replacement fixtures and will schedule lift work to perform replacements gradually. Staff noted that some parking‑lot lighting is used primarily for evening events such as basketball games.

No formal vote was taken on repairs; staff said they will prioritize safety and schedule replacements and more extensive basin repairs when equipment and access (a lift) are available.
