South Madison school board elects officers, keeps compensation level and approves committee slate

The South Madison Community School Corporation board of school trustees elected Mark Thompson as board president and Buck Evans as vice president at its Jan. 8 meeting, approved routine officer appointments and left board compensation unchanged for 2026.

Board members moved and seconded the slate of officers and took a voice/roll-call vote to approve the nominations. The board also voted to adopt the schedule of meeting times and dates that Superintendent Dr. Hall circulated in advance.

The board agreed to keep board compensation for 2026 at the same rates as 2025 after a motion and second. The motion passed on the recorded affirmation of board members.

On committee assignments and district representatives the board approved a consolidated slate of appointments, including the nomination of Penny Myers as school corporation treasurer and (as presented) Connie Jones or Paul O’Kelly discussed for assistant treasurer roles. Board members also named representatives to the Indiana School Boards Association (ISBA) convention, policy liaison, athletic council, vocational and safety committees, and civic boards such as the Pendleton and Ingalls redevelopment commissions.
