District says high-school roofs finished; contractor to refinish gym floor after admitted damage

Superintendent Dr. Hall updated the board on Jan. 8 on the high-school construction project: both roofs are complete and certified, but the general contractor accepted responsibility for damage to the gym floor and has agreed in writing to cover the cost to resand and refinish the floor during the summer.

Dr. Hall said some interior and exterior door hardware and specific glass panels were not installed to contract specifications; subcontractor Delaware Glass has agreed to replace the mis-specified glass and the project’s architects brought in an independent specialist to review access-control hardware and latching issues. Some hardware problems were remedied immediately, but Dr. Hall said scheduling and a written timeline from the general contractor and subcontractors for the remaining fixes were still pending as of the afternoon prior to the meeting.

"They created that damage. We have a written notification that they're going to cover the cost of resanding, refinishing the gym floor this summer," Dr. Hall said.

He emphasized that the building is secure and that identified safety issues had been addressed; remaining work concerns hardware adjustments and replacement glass panels, and the administration expects follow-up walk-throughs and repairs.
