Board approves 2026–27 open‑enrollment space, guarantees and transfers from virtual programs

The McFarland School Board approved a package of open‑enrollment decisions for the 2026–27 school year and a motion to accept recommended student transfers from virtual providers.

Open‑enrollment decisions: Staff proposed 111 total open‑enrollment seats (up from 103 last year, 41% filled last year) after analyzing class size limits and enrollment projections. The board approved the proposed space availability and then approved related items: guarantees that currently attending resident pupils count in occupied spaces and guarantees for siblings of currently attending pupils, and the creation of random‑selection wait lists for remaining seats. Each motion was moved, seconded and approved by voice vote; the chair announced the motions carried 4–0.

Student transfers from virtual programs: The board approved recommendations to transfer students from WEVA Destination Career Academy and Insight School of Wisconsin back to their resident districts because of lack of engagement. Board members noted the list includes young students and that transferring at semester is a timely moment to return to in‑person settings.
