County liaison asks plan commission for guidance on interlocal agreement

Austin Boudreaux, the commission’s ETJ liaison, told the Angola City Plan Commission on Jan. 12 that county leadership has circulated proposals for an interlocal agreement and wants the city to provide clear guidance that removes ambiguities for future boards.

"My leadership's asked me to request from you guys some sort of plan," Boudreaux said, asking that the commission consider the county’s proposals and provide feedback. He said the county has provided multiple drafts over the past two years and that recent drafts have been shortened and clarified in response to city feedback.

Commissioners and staff expressed a preference for a shorter, focused agreement. One commissioner asked for an approximate timeline; staff and a commissioner said the mayor and city attorney have reviewed the matter and that the county indicated a decision 'first of the year' and expects to proceed soon.

Boudreaux said he will continue to raise the item monthly until an agreement is finalized. Staff and commissioners agreed to continue discussions and to work with the mayor and city attorney on the city’s formal response.

Next steps: the county and city will continue to negotiate the interlocal agreement; the commission’s liaison will provide updates at future meetings.
