Humboldt City School Board swears in trustees, keeps officers and approves routine business

The Humboldt City School Board opened Tuesday evening by swearing in newly elected trustees and presenting certificates of election, and then moved quickly through routine governance business.

At the start of the meeting the board administered the oath of office to incoming trustees. An official presented a certificate to Terry Johnson, named in the meeting as the school board trustee for Ward 1. Shortly after the swearing-in, a motion to retain the current chair and vice chair was made and seconded; the board voted with verbal 'Aye' responses and the chair announced that the motion carried with all ayes and no recorded nays.

The board also addressed its legislative representation. Chair said Pastor Hodge had stepped down from the role and nominated Tom McCollum to serve as the Humboldt City School Board’s legislative representative. The nomination was seconded and approved by the board (vote recorded verbally as all ayes).

Members approved the consent agenda without discussion after a motion and second. The board then considered and approved the calendar of board meeting dates; members discussed scheduling conflicts in July, November and December and confirmed a contingency date of Dec. 10, 2026, "if needed," with staff asked to avoid requiring work during holidays.

There were no public comments at the end of the meeting; the chair noted that public comment submissions must be filed in writing in advance. The meeting adjourned after routine closing motions.
