Committee approves settlement resolutions in closed session and adopts them in open session

The committee authorized two settlement resolutions after closed-session discussion and then adopted the resolutions in open session on Jan. 12.

The city attorney recommended approval of a resolution authorizing settlement in Odalo Ohiku v. City of Milwaukee (Milwaukee County Circuit Court case CV004094) and explained related legal considerations off the record during closed-session consultation. The committee then moved to adopt the resolution in open session without objection.

The committee also considered a second settlement resolution in MEDL LLC v. City of Milwaukee. Again, the city attorney recommended adoption following closed-session advice; Alderman Pratt moved adoption and the committee approved the resolution with no recorded objections. Chair Jackson reminded members to use the correct closed-session language when referring to off-the-record advice.

Both resolutions were adopted by the committee and will be reflected in the council record. The items move forward as committee action and the city attorney's office will carry out any next steps to implement the settlements as authorized.
