Board approves revised transportation zones after stakeholder feedback

The Washington County School Board approved revised transportation-zone boundaries after revising its original recommendation to address logistical concerns and stakeholder feedback.

Superintendent Doctor Parrish presented two specific adjustments: keeping a loop of Spring Valley Road assigned to High Point Elementary rather than moving that area to another school, and altering Rust Hollow loops so that a small group of students would be reassigned to Addington Elementary rather than Greendale. Parrish said those changes reduce additional bus turnarounds and better match bus routes to existing patterns.

The superintendent said staff had consulted with bus drivers, families and Mr. Hockett (transportation) on routing logistics and that some families will continue to provide their own student transportation. He also emphasized that students with Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) who attend a specific school for services will continue to receive the required transportation and supports.

Board members asked for next steps and additional details; the superintendent said the transportation department would produce updated enrollment-impact figures, recommend bus-route changes and, where necessary, suggest staff reallocations. The board approved the revised transportation zones by unanimous vote (6-0). The transportation department was assigned to report back with detailed route and staffing recommendations.

The board and staff stressed that case-by-case needs (trauma-informed concerns, IEPs and students with special services) will be considered during implementation.
