Newport declares 2015 Horton F-450 ambulance surplus, authorizes auction

The City of Newport commission unanimously approved Commissioner's Order No. 2 on a motion and second to declare a 2015 Horton F-450 ambulance surplus and authorize disposal in accordance with state law.

Assistant Chief Kors told the commission the vehicle is being retired and that the order allows the city to sell it through a public auction platform commonly used by governments. "I believe we do have a buyer for this particular unit already," Kors said, adding that the city did not have an exact sale price to report. He said the replacement unit previously approved by the commission will be "in service within the next week or two."

The order cites Kentucky Revised Statutes (KRS) governing disposal of municipal property. No members of the public spoke on the item. The commission proceeded to a roll-call vote; Commissioners Sutherland, Radronsky, Vice Mayor Smith Morrow and Mayor Caduley each recorded a yes vote, and the motion carried.

The commission did not specify a sale price or the buyer at the meeting. Staff said the city typically uses an online government auction platform for disposals and that the new ambulance had been approved earlier in 2025. The action directs staff to complete disposal in compliance with state and city requirements.

The commission moved on to the next agenda item following the vote.
