Board adds training requirement to City of Orton SRO/crossing guard contracts and approves amended agreement

The Warren Co. R-III Board approved amended intergovernmental contracts with the City of Orton that cover school resource officers and crossing guards, adding a training requirement for officers.

Board members discussed that state law (SB 68 was mentioned as the relevant training requirement) requires certain training and that the district needs two people trained at that level; with Dr. Ross on military leave, the board agreed to add a clause that one SRO will attend the CES/Missouri School Safety Academy annually. The board agreed that SROs also must complete eight hours of annual continuing training, and members noted some of those hours can be completed online.

A motion to approve the contracts with the additional training wording was moved, seconded and carried by voice vote. The board instructed staff to add the amendment to the contract language and return the revised document to the city for its approval at its next meeting.
