The School District of Milton board approved temporary compensation for three certified staff members who have been absorbing responsibilities while two teaching positions remain vacant.
Administration proposed paying up to 10% of affected employees' annual salary for the period they covered additional duties; the district said the funds are already budgeted. Chris explained the proposal followed earlier discussion about two unfilled positions and that the 10% figure would be prorated if positions were filled before the end of the school year.
Board discussion focused on workload: Whitney said current caseloads for some staff have been as high as about 52 students each, while the established cap is 35. "They're both almost double what their caseload is expected to be at this point," Whitney said.
John moved to approve compensation not to exceed 10% of current annual salaries for the identified staff, with Rick seconding the motion. The board approved the measure by voice vote.
Administration said they would coordinate with payroll to compute the exact payment amount based on the start of the school year until the positions are filled.
