The Parks and Recreation board discussed a slate of upcoming community events, including a daddy-daughter dance scheduled for Feb. 22, 2026, and options for a mother–son dance, trivia nights and other activities intended to engage a range of residents.
"The DJ is secured," Speaker 5 said of the Feb. 22 event, adding that the intent was to sell roughly 130 tickets per time slot. Speaker 5 proposed running two time slots (for example, 5–6 p.m. and 7–8 p.m.) to allow cleanup and transition between sessions. Board members debated event length (one hour versus longer slots) and staffing; several members volunteered to help set up and wrap up the event.
Board members also discussed whether to host a mother–son dance in June, October or November and recommended polling the community with two month choices rather than multiple specific dates. Speakers suggested using an online survey to collect preferences and to publicize sign-ups electronically in addition to paper flyers.
The group reviewed the Dec. 6, 2025 Christmas karaoke event, noting lower turnout possibly due to concurrent school activities and illness. Alternatives discussed included adult-only trivia nights, "singo" (song-based bingo), and free events supported by concession sales. Speaker 5 said concession nights can bring meaningful revenue on event nights, noting he sometimes "make[s] $200 in concession." Childcare options were proposed for adult-only events, with volunteers and teen sitters mentioned as possibilities.
Board members agreed to pursue an online poll, continue planning for the Feb. 22 dance, and return with a report in February about ticketing, staffing and logistics. No formal motion to approve event budgets appeared in this segment.
