Coconut Creek honors IT director Eric Rupert for 41 years of service

City manager Sheila Rose presented a proclamation at the Coconut Creek City Commission meeting on Jan. 8 recognizing Eric Rupert for 41 years of service to the city.

The proclamation says Rupert was hired July 16, 1984, and advanced through roles including data processing manager (1986), information systems manager (1998), information technology director (2003) and chief technology director (2013). The document credited him with overseeing modernization and infrastructure projects that improved operational efficiency and service continuity.

Multiple commissioners offered personal remarks and anecdotes about Rupert's community and workplace presence. Commissioner Brody recalled an encounter in a nature preserve where Rupert showed a Cooper's hawk nest to his young daughter; others praised his mentorship and leadership. Rupert accepted flowers and congratulations and was thanked for his service to the city.

The proclamation and the commissioners' remarks were ceremonial; no formal action was required and none was taken following the presentation.
