Coconut Creek manager updates commission on lighting, remembrance event and redistricting timeline

City manager Sheila Rose used the Jan. 8 commission meeting to provide several staff updates.

Lions Road lighting: Rose said Emtek Group has ordered and paid for light poles; the poles are expected to be delivered to the city yard around March and the project should be completed by October or by the end of the year. Staff noted a 10% contingency in the agreement and do not expect to exceed it.

Town hall/ambassador meeting: Staff is developing a hybrid virtual town-hall for an ambassador program on property tax to be held Feb. 3 at 6 p.m.; staff will invite the public and noted Councilmember/representative Christine Hanchofsky (staff said she will participate but will be in Tallahassee) will be part of outreach.

Holocaust remembrance and art installation: Staff reiterated plans for a Jan. 29 day-of-remembrance event including a cattle car exhibit for school daytime programming and a public evening ceremony. Staff said the artist is flying in and the foundation for the artwork is scheduled for Jan. 16 with installation the following week.

Redistricting: Rose said the city expects to open applications for the redistricting committee on May 4 and close them on June 8; because the charter requires appointments by July 15, staff expects selections at either the June 25 or July 9 commission meeting. Staff noted the committee will last 120 days and that consultants are being engaged to assist with data preparation.

Rose and staff said they will return with more detailed schedules and noted the project will include regular project-management meetings and read-ahead materials for commissioners.
