Miami Beach Board of Adjustment elects new chair and vice chair

The Miami Beach Board of Adjustment elected Sarah Romelli chair and Jan Silverman vice chair at its Jan. 9 meeting, the board announced after a nomination and voice vote.

Outgoing chair Mr. Goldberg, who said he had served on the board for six years and chaired it for four, opened the meeting and outlined procedural requirements for reappointments, noting a 60-day window after a term expires during which the city may accept applications and the commission makes final appointments. "This has to go to the full commission," he said, explaining that board seat reappointments are not direct appointments by a commissioner or the mayor.

The change in leadership comes as several board members face reappointment timelines; the chair urged members and the public to observe the procedural rules and thanked staff members and colleagues for their support. Staff confirmed a full quorum of seven members present at the start of the meeting. The board set its next regular meeting for Feb. 6.
