Council grants National Grid orders for conduits and a jointly owned pole after unopposed hearings

The Salem City Council closed public hearings and voted to grant two utility orders presented by a National Grid representative.

Sabida Mahabir Sheehi, representing National Grid, explained the Jefferson Avenue conduits are intended to upgrade service to 193 Jefferson Ave; no speakers appeared in opposition and Councilor Sidorak moved to close the hearing and to grant the order, which the council approved.

At a separate hearing, Mahabir Sheehi said a jointly owned pole on Lafayette Street would serve Salem State; again, no opposition appeared and Councilor Varela moved to close and grant the matter. Both actions carried on unanimous procedural votes.

Because no opposition or technical objections were recorded, the orders progressed without substantive debate.
