Federal and civil-rights leaders praise new South Fulton leadership, stress partnership and justice

Several high-profile speakers addressed the inauguration. Congresswoman Lucy McBath (representing Georgia’s new 6th District) praised the mayor and council, said she would be a partner in Washington and celebrated the historic nature of the swearing-in. Congresswoman Nikema Williams also offered congratulations and emphasized regional partnerships and ongoing collaboration.

Civil-rights attorney Ben Crump delivered a forceful endorsement of the new mayor’s capacity to lead on justice issues. Crump cited national cases — including George Floyd, Breonna Taylor and Ahmaud Arbery — to frame a call for leaders who will pursue racial equity and police accountability. "She will be unapologetic in her defense of Black liberty, Black humanity, and Black culture," Crump said, urging local leaders to take decisive action.

Speakers framed their remarks as offers of partnership and encouragement rather than formal policy commitments from federal offices; no new federal programs or funding decisions were announced at the ceremony.
