Parowan — The City Council authorized staff to buy back two police trucks that are coming off lease after a staff presentation showed the city has equity in the vehicles and operational need for reserve vehicles.
Staff said the lease buyback price on two trucks initially quoted at $24,007.50 was negotiated down to $20,500 each. The city’s prior buybacks on a previous set were roughly $19,075 each. City staff recommended purchasing both trucks and selling one later if it becomes surplus; council members discussed mileage (noting ranges in the 60,000–80,000 mile neighborhood), the availability of grant vehicles received from the county, and budgeted appropriation.
A council motion to buy both trucks and keep them — with a condition that if evaluation shows one is not needed the city will sell it — passed unanimously. Staff said the cost was budgeted but that a small budget amendment might be necessary later depending on realized sale proceeds.
What happens next: Staff will effect the buyback and proceed with fleet‑management planning and a forthcoming equipment‑replacement program for public works.
