Resident presses Jefferson County on gravel-road conversion; county outlines phased approach

A Jefferson County resident urged commissioners on Jan. 8 to prioritize conversion or improvement of a gravel road (West 410 North). Eric Dickerson described repeated local requests and asked how his road could be moved to the top of the list.

County staff and commissioners said gravel-road conversions are done in sections from intersection to intersection, that funding and time limit how work, and that the county is attempting to distribute projects across different areas rather than concentrate them in a single location. Staff noted an older conversion list exists but said they would review paperwork and that certain roads may be eligible for community-crossings or other grants that require segmented project design.

Commissioners encouraged Mr. Dickerson to provide any previously signed paperwork to staff so they can check records; officials said several conversion projects are planned but that any individual road’s placement depends on maintenance history, grant eligibility and available funding.
