Board approves $1.5035 million amendment for Factory Shoals Park construction

Representatives of Sunbelt Builders presented Amendment No.1 for Factory Shoals Park to the Newton County Board of Commissioners on Jan. 6, asking the board to approve a guaranteed maximum price (GMP) addition of $1,500,000 to the existing preconstruction contract. Jeff Klein and Benjamin Anderson said design work and staff coordination produced a recommended scope and GMP to permit construction to begin.

Commissioners clarified a line-item for preconstruction services ($3,500) and the resulting total contract amount. The presenter confirmed that after amendment the contract would total $1,503,500. A motion to approve the amendment was made, seconded and carried by voice vote (tally not recorded).

The board's approval allows the county to move into the construction phase for Factory Shoals Park under the amended contract. County staff did not provide a detailed construction schedule in the presentation; project managers were present to answer questions during the meeting.
