The DeKalb County Operations Committee approved multiple contract awards and ratifications and deferred action on a resolution establishing how a county commissioner would be chosen to serve on the Continuum of Care board.
The committee approved an annual low‑bid invitation for parts and services for county vehicles and off‑road equipment covering multiple departments, with a recommended award to 32 responsive bidders and a not‑to‑exceed total of $8,465,000. Staff said the broad vendor list and multiple awards help the county keep better pricing across a diverse fleet.
IT items included ratification of a Sourcewell cooperative purchase order for Darktrace, an AI‑driven cybersecurity platform, awarded to SHI International Corp for a one‑year subscription not to exceed $457,567.16. IT staff said Darktrace is intended to bolster email and network threat detection after the county experienced a mass outgoing email incident last year. “So we think this tool will be a excellent tool in identifying some of those threats proactively,” an IT presenter said.
The committee also ratified a one‑year extension for support and premier maintenance of the Commvault enterprise backup and recovery system under a GSA contract (PO 5058417) at a not‑to‑exceed $325,043.52; staff explained Commvault is used for nightly backups of servers and email and said archived backups are typically retained about six months.
Earlier, Commissioner Ted Terry introduced a resolution to set a formal process for appointing a commissioner to the Continuum of Care board; staff (Director Mitchell) was not present and committee members agreed to defer the resolution to the Feb. 10 Board of Commissioners meeting with a prior stop back in operations so staff can present additional information. The deferral was approved by voice vote.
All routine items in this special‑call meeting were completed and the committee adjourned.
