The Fairfax County Electoral Board reorganized at its Jan. 7 meeting, electing Kate as chair, Megan Challenger as vice chair and Kevin Pinkney as secretary/treasurer, and approving the minutes from its December meeting.
Presiding officer opened the session and introduced Megan Challenger as the board's newest member. A nomination for Kate to serve as chair was offered, seconded and approved by voice vote. After the chair was chosen, the board nominated Challenger as vice chair; the presiding officer said, "Megan, congratulations. You are now the vice chair." The board then nominated Kevin Pinkney to serve as secretary/treasurer and approved that nomination by voice vote. The presiding officer noted the Code of Virginia requires certain officer roles to be filled promptly at the first meeting.
The board also moved to adopt the minutes from December (including the December 13 reconvene/canvas). A motion to adopt the minutes was made, seconded and approved by voice vote.
No formal roll-call tallies were recorded in the transcript for these actions; votes were carried by voice. The board closed routine business and turned to the general registrar's report and preparations for upcoming special elections.
The actions taken at the Jan. 7 meeting fulfill the board's statutory reorganization duties under the Code of Virginia and set the leadership for the 2026 meeting cycle.
