NextGen board signs up for Littleton Boulevard stakeholder group, outlines priorities on homelessness and waste

The Next Generation Advisory Board agreed Jan. 13 to engage more actively in several city initiatives, including appointing a board representative to the Littleton Boulevard subarea stakeholder group and assembling briefing materials for future debates on homelessness, waste collection and stormwater.

City staff described the Littleton Boulevard subarea plan and asked whether the board wanted a representative in the long-running stakeholder group; Bobby Thomas agreed to serve informally if no other board member volunteered. Staff estimated the stakeholder process would run through about October 2027 and emphasized the planning area includes transportation, parks and the library.

Board members suggested future agenda items: reviewing municipal approaches to garbage and recycling procurement and collection, evaluating safe-parking options for people living in vehicles during severe weather, considering reuse or activation of Geneva Village housing units for emergency sheltering, and exploring whether joining a regional stormwater authority could improve capacity and lower costs.

Staff said these topics are on the city's radar and will be discussed at an upcoming council retreat; staff recommended the board coordinate with subject-matter experts and other local boards. The board asked staff to schedule briefings and tentatively placed these items for future months while continuing work on Project Downtown and the elections letter.
