Stevensville accepts town attorney Greg Overstreet’s resignation and authorizes RFQ for replacement

Stevensville — The Town Council on Jan. 8 unanimously accepted the early resignation of town attorney Greg Overstreet and authorized staff to advertise a request for qualifications (RFQ) to hire a successor.

Mayor read Overstreet’s resignation email to the council, noting Overstreet will remain through Jan. to complete open items and assist with transition. Council moved and seconded to accept the resignation with a concluding date of Feb. 1, 2026; the motion passed with recorded 'Aye' votes.

Council then moved to request an RFQ for the town attorney position and authorized the mayor’s office and staff to proceed. The mayor told the meeting the RFQ item was next on the agenda and staff will reach out to potential candidates; the mayor also said a prosecutor the town works with will be contacted about possible consolidation of services.

A member of the public and licensed Montana attorney, Christine Lundley, asked when the RFQ would be issued; the mayor replied that the RFQ timing is listed on the agenda and will be discussed. Council members asked that Overstreet assist with recommending qualified candidates and complete open work before departure.

The council recorded votes accepting Overstreet’s resignation and authorizing the RFQ; next steps include drafting the RFQ and soliciting responses from qualified Montana attorneys.
