Elk County accepts $1.44 million statewide interconnectivity grant for Northern Tier 9-1-1

Elk County accepted $1,443,115.79 in statewide interconnectivity funding for the Northern Tier Regional 9-1-1 system, with Elk County acting as fiduciary for the 10-county region. County staff explained the 9-1-1 surcharge process and said the state collects regional 9-1-1 surcharges, allocates funds to regions, and the fiduciary distributes funds for maintenance and subscription costs.

An EMA official explained that local project submissions drive the region’s use of funds and that the state can retain a portion for administrative operations. Commissioners asked about spending restrictions and whether recent surcharge increases would alter the allotment; the EMA official said any changes would depend on submitted projects and state allocation practices.

After discussion, commissioners moved to accept the funding; the motion was seconded and approved by voice vote. The county’s acceptance ensures the region can proceed with scheduled maintenance and purchases for its 9-1-1 system.
