Committee hears plan to locate sewer blockage; jail cameras near final integration

During new business on Jan. 8, county committee speakers described persistent sewer backups in a county building and outlined diagnostic and repair steps staff plan to take.

Unidentified Speaker 1 said the county had received letters about sewer problems at the far end of a county building. He said staff pulled toilets to redo flooring, ran cameras in the line twice, and believe there is a specific spot in the line catching solids. "It was designed for 3 gallon toilet flushes," Speaker 1 said, noting modern lower-flush toilets (1.2–1.6 gallons) may not carry solids through a line built for older, higher-volume fixtures. He said staff plan a complete flush of the system, a repeat camera inspection and, if necessary, cutting a section of floor to access and remove the blockage.

Speaker 2 updated the committee that the jail's air-conditioning systems are operating and that the camera system at the jail has been installed; the speaker said final integration and some permissions/roles are still being resolved.

Speaker 3 (identified in the meeting as the mayor) said he had walked the site and witnessed the sewer issue and confirmed ongoing contact between staff and the absent staff member Rick about repairs.

No formal vote or timetable for the plumbing repairs was given. Staff described the likely next steps (system flush, camera verification, targeted access to remove a blockage) and said they will continue work and report back to the committee.
