Commission approves slightly oversized wall sign for Dapper's Barber Shop

The Hilliard Cleaning Zoning Commission on Jan. 8 approved a variance to allow a slightly oversized wall sign for Dapper's Barber Shop in the Kroger shopping center at 4730 Cemetery Road, following staff recommendations.

Staff told the commission the proposed sign exceeds an older graphics-commission sizing rule that governs multiple-tenant panels but that, because the building sits nearly 500 feet back from Cemetery Road, a modest increase in sign area would not harm the public realm. The applicant plans to use existing gooseneck lights to illuminate the sign.

A commissioner said they were excited about the barbershop; there were no audience speakers. Staff recommended approval with conditions, noting precedent in recent similar cases. A motion to approve the sign variance was seconded and carried by roll call 7–0.

Next steps: applicant to follow staff conditions and obtain required permits.
