Council approves abandonment of portion of Allen's Harbor Road to support Quonset Development project

The Town Council approved an application to abandon a portion of Allen's Harbor Road on Dec. 15 to accommodate Quonset Development Corporation's rerouting and to open a parcel for potential development. Town Manager described the abandonment as part of coordinated negotiations, including a land swap tied to a future public-safety complex.

Planning and administration recommended approval subject to five conditions laid out in staff correspondence; the applicant was present and planning and public-safety benefits were cited. A councilor moved to approve the abandonment "subject to the 5 items which are mentioned in the letter here," the motion was seconded and carried by voice vote.

Town staff said the change would generate potential development revenue and aid negotiations for land needed by the public-safety complex; councilors noted the project's regional economic connections and the importance of protecting municipal interests through the stated conditions.
