Commission authorizes $15,000 installation of compressed‑air lines for Sheriff’s storage building

The Cass County Commission approved a $15,000 plan to install compressed-air piping in half of the Sheriff’s Office storage building to support maintenance tasks and to supply the county’s mobile command vehicle.

Sheriff (unnamed in the record) told the commission the airlines would allow staff to air up tires, service brakes and connect air directly to the mobile command unit so it could be ready for deployment without extended warm‑up delays. The sheriff said a full‑building installation had an earlier quote of about $25,000 but that half the building would meet needs at an estimated $15,000. "I think we could go with that half estimate, the 15,000, and certainly meet our needs," he said.

The sheriff acknowledged the 2026 budget did not include the item and said the office would attempt to absorb the cost within the 2026 budget and return to the commission for a budget adjustment only if necessary. County administrators thanked the sheriff’s office and building and grounds staff for coordinating the procurement.

Commissioners moved and seconded authorization to purchase and install the air piping; the motion passed by roll call with no recorded dissent.
