Lakeland trustees swear in new members, elect leadership and set meeting schedule

The Lakeland Joint School District board opened its annual business meeting by administering oaths of office to newly declared trustees and immediately moved to reorganize leadership and key administrative roles.

Superintendent Rusty Taylor conducted the nominations for board chair; Michelle Thompson was nominated and recorded as chair following a voice vote. The board then took nominations and recorded appointments for vice chair and other roles. Jessica Grantham was nominated and approved as district treasurer. Sierra was appointed clerk of the board; Olivia was named temporary clerk in the clerk's absence; Sarah was appointed custodian of records. Trustees passed Resolution 1.7.206 to designate assistant treasurers and signatories for individual schools.

Trustees also considered their regular meeting cadence and voted to retain regular meetings on the third Wednesday of each month with an option to hold special meetings on the first Wednesday, subject to the board's right to cancel when necessary. The meeting schedule will be published with time (6 p.m.) and location (district office) as part of the official calendar.

Most organizational motions were carried by voice vote. The board approved the meeting agenda and the consent agenda after noting corrections to meeting minutes and recording procedures for verbatim motions, which trustees emphasized must remain accurate for the legal record.

The board adjourned its business items on reorganizations before moving on to reports and action items later in the evening.
