Facilities staff told trustees the district faces several maintenance challenges that could have operational and budgetary implications.
Tim Hague and district facilities staff reported a roughly 46% reduction in custodial staffing and described steps to prioritize coverage and coordinate with building principals. Trustees asked for ongoing updates and noted the need to hear directly from directors about operational impacts.
The HVAC systems in several buildings are producing 3–5 degree swings; gym temperatures at Lakeland High School are particularly inconsistent because thermostats are wall-mounted and capture different ambient levels. Facilities said the district's centralized Niagara control system will allow staff to monitor room temperatures and adjust settings. A new boiler was reported as now online, which should improve stable temperature control.
District staff reviewed roof condition findings: an independent third-party review shows different roof sections replaced in different years; the recommendation is for full roof replacement at Lakeland High School but the cost was not included in the current budget. Facilities staff said they will provide a written report showing sections and warranty details and bring options back to the board for direction.
No formal facilities spending vote was taken; staff will return with more detailed cost estimates and recommended next steps.
