Board reviews search-and-seizure policy updates, including breathalyzer language and form placement

Trustees reviewed policy revisions covering student discipline forms, search-and-seizure procedures and language to address breathalyzing and metal-detection logs.

The policy committee recommended removing certain procedural forms (behavioral support plan and temporary notice of suspension) from the publicly posted policy pages and keeping them under administrative control since they are procedural templates and are regularly modified. Trustees supported returning policy proposals with the committee's final work and asked that any related forms be included for board review in the same packet.

On search and seizure and school-sponsored activities, committee work added explicit language about breathalyzer use at certain high school events and about metal-detection procedures and logs. Trustees discussed whether breathalyzer notifications should be an informational letter or be incorporated into the student handbook and asked that any abbreviations (for example, "LJSD") appear as the full district name on first reference.
