Norwalk Shellfish Commission approves minutes, reviews permits and reports — meeting roundup

The Norwalk Shellfish Commission met Jan. 8 and approved the previous meeting’s minutes and committee reports by voice vote before adjourning.

Treasurer Bill reported there had been no transactions and the commission’s balance remains $28,650. The health department reported December rainfall of 3.4 inches (historical December average 4.06 inches) and a 2025 yearly average of 2.95 inches; Bill said Cook’s Ground experienced three closures for rainfall exceedances of 0.5 inches on Dec. 2, Dec. 19 and Dec. 29 and that no bypasses were reported.

The chair reminded commissioners that the statewide shellfish commission gathering will be at the New Haven Agricultural Experiment Station on Saturday the 24th (two to three weeks after this meeting) and that anyone wishing to attend should reply to Bill to register. Commissioners also discussed the redesigned shellfish permit format and outreach to an additional vendor, Ben at All American Bait and Tackle, and plans to create a Shellfish Commission email account for education and rapid advisories.

Procedural motions recorded at the meeting included approval of the minutes and acceptance of committee reports; both motions were moved, seconded and approved by voice vote. Commissioners then moved to adjourn.
