The Germantown Public Works & Highway Committee authorized a professional services agreement with consultant Taddy to design traffic signal and lighting improvements at County Line Road and Appleton Avenue, and to provide construction inspection. The village secured a DOT grant that will cover approximately 90% of eligible costs, staff said, making the village’s share comparatively small for the design phase.
Staff said Taddy provided three proposals: signal work only, and two options that include crosswalk improvements. Staff recommended retaining Taddy for design and construction inspection and asked that the crosswalk options be evaluated as part of the design because the incremental village cost for that evaluation is small (Speaker 4). The design estimate discussed at the meeting included a design figure of about $83,000, and staff noted the village’s 10% share of the design work for four crosswalks would be roughly $8,000; the agreement authorized tonight is not to exceed $118,800 for the full design and inspection scope (Speaker 4).
Trustees asked about in‑house survey capabilities, subcontracted survey costs (about $7,000), inspection approach during construction and coordination with Menomonee Falls and county/state systems. Staff noted the state signal‑coordination software is currently offline and that fiber connections already exist at some intersections; the design should keep the fiber and future interconnection in mind.
The committee voted unanimously to authorize the agreement and directed staff to proceed with the design that evaluates crosswalk improvements.
