Public hearing held on Dickson County growth-plan amendment; coordinating committee and GIS mapping explained

Commissioners heard a presentation about the Dickson County growth-plan amendment and map during a public hearing at the Jan. 8 meeting.

A county presenter explained the purpose of a growth plan — to identify urban growth boundaries (UGBs) and planned growth areas (PGAs), which guide where municipalities may annex and where infrastructure planning is focused over the next quarter-century. The presenter said state law requires counties to adopt growth plans and described the coordinating committee that will combine jurisdictional inputs; the presenter said the coordinating committee will include mayors and representatives from cities, the county, the school board and chamber and will assemble jurisdictional maps into a single regional plan. The presenter also noted older maps will be replaced with GIS mapping so parcel boundaries and jurisdictional labels are more precise.

The chair opened the public hearing and invited comments; no members of the public spoke and the chair closed the hearing. The presenter invited commissioners to contact staff and noted there will be another public hearing at the county commission in February and subsequent coordinating-committee meetings before final adoption and state ratification through the LGAPC process. A zoning-resolution amendment on nonresidential character standards was discussed as related material but deferred to next month's meeting for fuller review.
