Wilson County commissioners hear resident request to lower Smith Hollow Road speed limit

A resident has requested the county lower the posted speed limit on a 1.9-mile stretch of Smith Hollow Road from 30 to 25 mph, and commissioners discussed applying the county’s petition/signature resolution before acting.

During the superintendent’s report, staff said the resident’s request covered about 1.9 miles and that there are only six houses along the stretch. Commissioners noted a standing resolution that requires verified resident signatures for speed-limit changes; one commissioner said if the affected residents agree (per the signature rules), the county could consider a 25 mph limit, but the commission would not set 20 mph because that would be considered a driveway speed.
