Resident recounts Roswell Road crash and urges bollards, guardrails near daycare

During the public-comment period of the Jan. 6 Sandy Springs City Council meeting, resident Vladimir Slotsky described a crash that occurred the previous day on Roswell Road in which a vehicle ran off the road, struck a utility pole and damaged a daycare teacher's car in a parking lot. No injuries were reported, but Slotsky told council the location has seen multiple similar incidents in recent years and earlier pedestrian infrastructure at the site (a yellow bollard) has been destroyed by collisions.

Slotsky said sidewalk improvements along that stretch of Roswell Road have been delayed and that drivers tend to speed up as the road descends and curves near the southern edge of the city. He urged immediate protective measures ' bollards, guardrails or other barriers ' to protect pedestrians, bus users and daycare children, and said the southeast corner of the district requires additional investment.

Council members acknowledged the safety concern during later remarks and identified transportation safety as a priority, including work in the North End and future T-SPLOST discussions. Staff did not announce a specific schedule at the meeting beyond the general discussion of transportation projects; council members urged staff to pursue near-term mitigations where feasible.

Slotsky's comments were part of the public-comment record; no formal motion was taken directly from the public comment, and council did not specify immediate funding at the Jan. 6 meeting.
