Legislature amends and approves 2026 meeting schedule, removes July 7 date

The Tompkins County Legislature considered Resolution A (Doc ID 13724), which sets the 2026 calendar of meeting dates. Greg Mezey moved the resolution and proposed an amendment to remove the July 7 meeting date to provide staff and legislators a summer break around the July 4 holiday. The body debated the rationale for the amendment, with proponents citing staff respite and historical practice.

Members voted on the amendment by show of hands; the amendment passed 14–2. The legislature then voted on the resolution as amended; the clerk reported the final tally as 15 in favor and 1 opposed, and the amended meeting schedule was adopted.

Members noted a couple of scheduling exceptions later in the calendar (March 19 and Nov. 5 moved to Thursdays to accommodate the NYSAC conference and Election Day). The resolution updates official meeting dates for the year and is recorded in the meeting minutes.
