Enterprise council extends demolition deadline, awards CDBG Phase 2 contract to Lewis Inc.

The City Council of Enterprise on Tuesday adopted a 120-day extension for previously ordered demolitions, moving the completion deadline to May 6, 2026, and approved awarding the 2024 CDBG Demolition Project Phase 2 contract to Lewis Incorporated for $133,083.

City staff explained the extension is procedural, intended to give the administration time to solicit and secure bids after earlier attempts failed to yield responsive contractors. Speaker 3 told the council the extension is not a reopening of whether properties should be demolished; the demolitions were previously authorized and staff needs time to execute those orders and return later to assess costs for recovery from property owners if required.

During the meeting Speaker 4 moved to adopt Resolution 010626 to extend the demolition deadline by 120 days; the motion was seconded and carried by voice vote. The public hearing on the extension produced no public testimony before the council closed the hearing and voted.

Separately, the council moved to accept a recommendation from David Ewing, CDBG program administrator, to award the Phase 2 CDBG demolition contract to Lewis Incorporated for $133,083. Speaker 5 moved to award the contract, Speaker 6 seconded, and the motion carried by voice vote.

Next steps: staff will solicit and execute demolition contracts within the extended timeline and report back to the council on final costs and any assessments to property owners required under city procedures.
